Working out in the morning ...Does it matter? and Why all that junk?

It is a fact that doing cardo exercises before you eat your breakfast will increase your calorie burn all day and since you have an empty stomach you will burn more fat during your workout. Your body is forced to take the energy you use to work out from your body fat because there is nothing in your stomach to burn for the workout.

It's also a fact that the only way to lose fat is for your body to burn it or have it cut out by a doctor.

While we all want to lose it as quick as possible it's a fact that sometimes getting in cardo before breakfast is not possible.

The great news is....
It's a fact that doing cardo exercises for 20 minutes at a time anytime during the day will still help you burn more fat than if you didn't get in any cardo workout.

Don't have time or the strength to get 20 minutes of vigorous activity in at one time?
Have no fear...you can break it up throughout the day and still get more benefit than you would if you had not done any cardo.

So while it is true that the best time to workout it in the morning within 30 minutes of waking up it is also true that just getting out and moving throughout the day will still burn fat.

If you really want to push the fat burning (and you can do it safely and your body is at a point it can handle it)
try this workout.
1-As soon as you get up get lots of water to have close at hand to drink during your cardo.  Get in 25 to 30 minutes of cardo.  work up to being able to make that a full vigorous 20 minutes or more.

2-Keep an eye on the clock....after your workout eat breakfast but check the time....one hour after your morning cardo ends you will be working out again...but for only 1 minute.....that's right only one minute
every hour for the rest of the day for one minute do jogging in place, jumping jacks, boxing while jogging, jumping and dancing around with the kids...what ever you can do to get your heart rate into the fat burning zone for just one minute.

Keep it up ....just one minute out of each hour that you are awake.  This is going to do several things.  It will help you to build up your ability to do more during your morning workout and it will keep your body at a higher calorie burning rate throughout the day.  It can also help you get to bed sooner.  If it's 10pm and you know you have to jog in place at 10:30 it might just get you in bed before it's time to do another 1 minute sprint.

According to the show "You Are What You Eat" we all should get a little trampoline and jog on it for 20 minutes before each meal.  This will put your body in a fat burning mode and you will burn off the calories you have at a healthy meal before they can become fat.
I have my little trampoline but am still working on getting 20 minutes before each meal.   At this point I'm thinking about trying setting it up in the kitchen and I can jump and cook.....might make for a really funny video!  If I am cooking something that needs attention up till the time it's done my hubby gets frazzled if I don't call him for dinner till 20 minutes later after a quick jump on the trampoline.  He says everything gets cold.  Which is true....but that's what microwaves are for ..right?  :)

Those little trampolines can really help out with getting in that morning cardo workout. :)

Today is the first day of Lent which means no late night TV or sweets till Easter.  My daughter and I are thinking this is a great time for Lent to arrive....it gives us even more reason to get our sleep and not eat sweets. :)

Yesterday my daughter wanted to get her hair cut.  We went to the little shop at our local wally world so i could get the shopping done at the same time.  At the last minute I decided to go ahead and get my hair cut also.  My hubby said he would take the shopping list and the 3 year old and get the stuff on the list.
Ohhh how nice!.....yea right!....he had a plan!

When we were finished getting out haircuts my daughter said she saw daddy sitting by the door with a lot of junk food in the cart.  I told her not to worry as I would put it back before getting to the checkout.

We walked out of the salon and here comes hubby with the biggest grin on his face laughing while walking towards us with a cart full of bagged items....he had already paid.

My daughter says, "See MOM!  It's all part of HIS EVIL plan!"  I didn't ask just what that plan was as I'm pretty sure I knew what she was talking about.

When we get within ear shot my son is shouting...."Mom!  We got surprises for you!"

My daughter pokes me in the side and whispers...."See Mom! I told you he had an EVIL PLAN!"

The cart has Bananas (on the list good item)
Whole cows milk (not on the list allergies in in the house make this a rotated food and can only be gotten every once in a while)  it was organic which was a good thing

other items in the cart none of which were on the list:
Sugar cookies from the deli with m&m's in them
Large bag of lays chips
large bag of Cheetos
large box of crunch n' munch
super large box of microwave popcorn with extra movie theater butter
soda
6 packages of processed meats
1 package of processed sliced and wrapped cheese
huge bucket of potato salad
boxes of yoplait ro-gurt with scooby doo ( I don't like these because they have way to much added sugar)
Boxes of Daniamals Smoothies ( another high sugar snack....adding to much sugar to yogurt makes it into junk food)
Two large boxes of little debbie snacks...Easter Egg iced brownies and marshmellow ball brownies
a loaf of 99cent white bread ( I know he needs bread for his lunchs at work but I always buy him organic whole wheat because it is healther)
and a large box of Honey Bunches of Oats with whole Grain....now you ask how can that be a bad thing?
In our house 3 of the 4 people  here are unable to handle gluten so wheat anything goes on our junk food list.  Wheat is the 2nd thing on the ingredients list....Sugar is the 3rd thing.  According to Dr Oz's 5...this goes on the junk food list because of the amount of sugar.
So like the yogurt and the white processed bread,  the cereal was not a good choice but one thought out by a three year old and a hubby that just doesn't get it.

I asked him how much he had spent and he said $45.

I told my daughter not to worry about it I would take care of everything.  I allowed it to come to the house...anyone that wanted it had junk food when we got home.....and my garbage disposal had a $45 treat after hubby went to sleep. ( I did finish the shopping while hubby insisted on taking the the kids to McDonald's and I bought the juicer I had been wanting...when I get upset I spend money...or eat...now that I don't do the eating so much I am gonna have to get a handle on the spending when upset... getting upset at hubby in the store resulted in a juicer ...a ninja master prep machine...and a single serving blinder for my daughter to fix the smoothies she loves to make...told hubby "you got a treat and so did I"....nothing else was said about it...at this point he KNEW he was deep in the dog house)
Actually I am quite proud of myself....I ended up spending less than $200 on things that will be useful.  There was a time if he had upset me that much it would have resulted in a wipe out of the savings account on things I would most likely never use.

He's at work today but I know he's not gonna be happy when he realizes I gave the garbage disposal his garbage again...but you know what?   ... I don't care!

My daughter was in tears last night before going to sleep asking me why would Dad bring that junk in the house when we have been working so hard to be healthy.  She has lost a whole pants size and it getting really strong.  She has more muscles that the neighborhood kids and she is having fun being stronger than the boys.  She has felt the benefit of being healthy and doesn't want to go back to the way it was.  I'm so proud of my daughter!

And shame on my hubby for getting my 3 year old involved in his plot to get junk food back into the house.  How do I handle 'getting back' at him when he does something that results in the kids hurting.....I cook stuff he hates for a few weeks.....so baked and grilled fish throughout Lent ....it's more than a few weeks but maybe it will get a point across.
I have a great sub zero freezer that will keep all the other meat just fine till Easter and after :)  I will talk about great tips on getting the most out of your freezer another day.. for now I must be running as David is ready to move to the next subject in school.

Sometimes when I have fish at dinner my daughter will ask me later...so what did dad do this time? I know he did something if you are cooking him baked fish.
After reading this post my daughter turned to me and said....lets have salmon with capers tonight.... (we both know thats his least fav fish but our fav fish)

  3. hahaha - I love the fishy revenge!

Gosh this is exactly what my husband would do to me. He also has his mom bringing in junk food all the time. In her defense I think her's is not so intentional, she just doesn't have much knowledge on junk food. A few weeks ago they both brought in a huge cake surrounded by cupcakes. The ones with like 8 lbs of thick frosting each? Fortunately it was late and my 3 year old never saw it since he was in bed but I walked right out and dumped the whole package in the trash outside and I told him I'll keep doing that everytime so he can go right ahead and keep throwing away his money (and his moms if he doesn't take care of it).

  4. Sad to say but my hubby will take it out of the trash. That's why I turned to the garbage disposal.
Talk to your mother-in-law and help her understand and odds are she will be with you.
Personally I feel that the reason they bring in junk when we are working hard to get healthy is really just part of them trying to keep control over us. Also they know they have been poo-poo heads and are worried if we get to looking good we might just finally get the courage up to leave their sorry behaviors. But that's just me thoughts on the behavior...could be something different.
