I didn't get in my biggest loser workout yesterday and had turned on the kinect to do the workout but then decided to just get some much needed sleep instead.
This morning it was still on and set to yesterday's workout. I did the workout and then turned off the machine to reset it to today's date. Today was a weigh in day. I was not able to make it through the 2nd level of the challenge and had gained 2 pounds since the last weigh in.
I decided to lower the workout level for the next 7 days since I've been having a really hard time getting through the hard level workouts after getting back to working out after being sick.
I had lost a lot of blood and I guess it's just taking my body more time than I expected to recover.
now I'm gonna talk poo
When we fill our bodies with foods that aren't good for it, many times the food will start building up around the edges of our colon. A lot of the colon cleanse diets are built around getting that old stool out. A person can actually have 10 to 20 pounds of old dried nasty poo stuck to the inside of your colon. With this much poo your body isn't able to absorb as much of the good stuff we are eating and the body thinks it's starving setting off the signal to eat. So you feel hungry all the time but the real problem is you just need to get rid of all that old poo.
One you start eating a cleaner diet the colon will start to clean it's self out. Even if you don't go on a special colon cleanse diet. It takes longer but it will still cleanse itself with time and a healthy diet.
When I started eating better I didn't keep this in mind. Totally slipped my mind.
A few weeks ago my body reminded me of this and I had some really smelly fill the bowl up poos for several days. I know all of the bad stuff was coming out and that had a lot to do with the smell....ugh!
The problem didn't happen till about 6 days into the massive poo week when I sat on the potty and thought I had diarrhea but it was actually just all blood. That can scare you! It was late so I made a note to self to give my doc a call in the morning for an appt. The next morning the same thing happened. I called the doc and she said to go straight to the ER.
The only time I have been rushed back to a room and gotten to see a doc so fast in the ER was when I was taken in by ambulance.
The blood was bright red which I though met it wasn't so bad but the doc explained that it met I had active bleeding going on and the source of the bleeding needed to be found quickly. After getting my history of starting a healthy diet and working out he suspected Diverticulitis or Diverticulosis- it's where the old stool pushed out on the side of colon making weak spots which results in pockets on the side of the colon filled with hard old stool. When you start eating right they can open up and the old stool will flush from your body but sometime blood vessels can break during the process causing a lot of bleeding.
I went through lots of tests ...had a CAT scan and had to drink really yukky stuff and get injected with radiation to get high contrast die in my system for the tests. After hours of getting poked in the backside the doc said he had great news. I didn't have what he had suspected but what had happened is the stool had been so old and hard that it had caused rips in the lining of the colon as it was leaving my body. Good thing he said is none of the rips were all the way through the wall of the colon! So basically to sum it up I had had junk food (lots of the culprit was gluten knowing I really should never eat it) it had built up in my colon , dried, then I started eating better and it started releasing from the wall of the colon leaving raw inflamed areas that started bleeding. He gave me steroids to take twice a day to help with the inflammation and told me to take special baths to help prevent the rips closer to the outside from becoming infected. He offered pain killers but I turned them down since I know I have a high threshold for pain and can't function as a mom very well when taking them.
The bleeding slowed down withing a few days but didn't stop fully for several days. I was taking iron as the doc had warned me the the bleeding could result in low iron. I'm still not fully back to myself but am getting better each day :)
So I guess what I really wanted to say is if you have blood in your stool or if you go poo and there is no stool just blood it really doesn't matter what color the blood is you need to get to the ER right away not wait till the next day to call your doc.
I'll be seeing my doc on Tuesday for a followup appt. I think I'm gonna take advantage of the time there and ask her to go ahead and draw my blood (odds are she'll be testing for iron anyway) It won't take much more blood to get the results on my numbers (cholesterol, blood sugar, etc....) After I get to my goal or in 6 months which ever comes first I'll have it taken again so I can see how my working out and healthy eating are helping my body to heal after years of me abusing it.
