Tomorrow is the first day of my 7 day raw food detox diet. I have decided to go with the plan I located on the 'Raw Food Divas' web sight. It's free and they send you daily emails helping you along as well as a complete forum where you can talk to other people on the diet. I don't know if I will actually take advantage for the forum but I am totally taking advantage of all the free info. They do sell a 7 day meal planner that takes all of the guess work out of what to eat and puts it all in black and white (with color photos) and very easy to follow daily recipes. It's $12.95. After buying it I realized all the info was in the 80 some odd pages of free stuff I had printed out, but it is nice to have it all in one place. And having the recipes is really nice! Their web sight is http://www.therawdivas.com/
You enter your email and then they send you a link to the web sight with a special password and log in name for you. You also start getting your daily emails right away. In the forum you can access all of the emails that will be mailed before you get them so you can get an idea of what is expected right away.
The first day of the diet you go 24 hours with nothing but water. (they say diabetics should not do the 24 hour fasting before starting the diet) It starts at 6pm one evening till 6pm the next day. Since I have fasting blood work to do tomorrow at 3:30 I decided tonight would be as good as time as any to get started,...after all...I can only have water till 3:30 tomorrow anyway so I might as well take a few more hours to get the detox diet going.
It says to start eating more raw foods with your normal foods for the week before starting and that on the day before the fast not to eat a bunch of junk food. And to remember it's not like you will never eat that food again...it's just 7 days. :) I really think I can do just 7 days. :)
Today I was getting ready for this evening and planning out my meals thinking I would have a light dinner around 5. I lost track of time and when hubby came in looking for dinner it was already 6pm. Oooops! Then I thought....it will be fine....it just means my 24 hours will be over sooner and I can have some fruit and vegs as soon as I get finished with my blood work tomorrow.
My calorie intake for today was very low since I didn't get in dinner or my afternoon snack....493.
I'll be keeping a very close eye on the scale this week to be sure I am only losing water or fat and not losing any muscle.
The plan says it's very important to keep exercising during the 7 days so that you don't lose any muscle while on the diet. After the 1.4 pound drop in muscle after taking 3 days off from working out and still pulling lower calorie days I know for a fact that I must be sure and get in my toning exercises this week :)
My wonderful daughter wanted to cook dinner since she knew I wasn't able to eat dinner (or maybe she just wanted to cook). I was super happy to let her do the cooking. :) I have told both my daughter and hubby I'm doing this diet but I don't expect them to not eat cooked food for the next week. hubby is being very supportive and that makes me very happy! Katherine's Cornish hens are smelling really yummy and I'm looking forward to having mine next Tuesday :)
I'll keep everyone posted on how this 7 day detox works.
The reason I decided to go on it is because I was having to take steroids for 2 weeks and it got my body a bit wacky. Whenever I take some meds I get out of whack feeling tired, and just blah ho hum. The best way to get things back to normal is to eat really healthy for a week or so and then ...boom...back to normal :) When I was not eating healthy I didn't brother eating better and just keep feeling like poo for a month or so because I was feeling that way before taking the antibodies or whatever the med was. Since I had been feeling soooo great just before getting sick I really want to get back to that full of energy and ready to go feeling as quick as I can. Rather than wait several weeks for the steroids to get fully out of my system I decided to do a quick detox diet and hopefully get back to the point that I can do more than my light workouts again. :)
Well, here's to taking a chance that I can find the will power to finish this 7 day plan. I know I can do it...even if my daughter thinks I have totally lost my mind. :)
And you know....several of these recipes that came with the meal plan are going to make great snacks for the kids and me for many years to come. :)
I'll be sharing what I eat each day but already know that my total calories for each day will be a bit low. I really am thinking that it will be OK as long as I keep in the toning exercises and keep a close eye on the scale and my total pounds of muscle. If I find I am losing muscle I'll stop the diet. :) I don't want to hurt myself trying to get healthy. I did that enough in my 20's when I weighed in the 120's and thought I was fat and needed to get smaller. Now I want to show myself I can get fit and be truly healthy at the same time :)

I just joined the 7-day raw food diet, but all I got was an email to the forum...is more information coming on the actual steps/recipes of the diet?
ReplyDeleteIt's kind of confusing.
